MENAYERI began as a collaboration between guitarist Edgardo and drummer Enrique in 1993. Highly influenced by classic prog bands of the 1970s, MENAYERI incorporated covers of bands such as Yes and Marillion into their live act while writing original material and gaining momentum. With vocalist Edwin and bassist Rambert, the band recorded their first full-length album "Tiempo Fugitivo", totally homemade, on CD-R in 1999. The album is currently unavailable.

Edgardo was forced to leave MENAYERI in 2001 due to his occupation being transferred to another country and was replaced by Eduardo. A transitional lineuap was completed with a new vocalist and one of its highlights was an acoustic performance in the Ponce Art Museum.
The band started 2003 without a vocalist. Then for the the recording of "Futura Historia" in mid 2003 Sonia joined on vocals. The new lineup, Enrique, Rambert, Eduardo, and Sonia performed many shows including a national television appearance. Sonia left the group in 2005. The remaining members tried with different vocalist without results. In early 2006 Rambert left the band due to a new job in another country. Eduardo and Enrique auditioned bassists without success. Beside a special private one-off performance with Rambert and a guest vocalist in 2007 MENAYERI was on hiatus.

During 2009 MENAYERI returned with a new lineup: Enrique, Eduardo, Vicente (bass), and José (vocals). José was the vocalist of the very first lineup of MENAYERI back in 1993. With a set formed by pieces from 'Tiempo Fugitivo' and 'Futura Historia' the new lineup started a new cycle of live performances, and development of new material.
